COVID-19 killed New Threads. But not in the way you think- following October's GONE WILD, we disbanded and work on a new album was halted. On top of that, a bizarre skateboarding accident resulted in Justin spraining his wrist, rendering him unable to play for weeks. During that time, I put together nine songs that were intended for a solo album that was ultimately scrapped (I released a single, "Hardship," in February). But I sent demos to Justin and James anyway, and following Justin's recovery, a new album was back on the table. That being said, it was clear from the start that this would not be a New Threads album, and as we moved through the recording process, which was entirely remote, it became more and more apparent that a name change was inevitable. We decided to start fresh as THE FREE ROCK TRIO, named after our first LP together. That first LP and the two that followed (BUFORD and GONE WILD) would be rebranded from New Threads to The Free Rock Trio, and this release- our fourth, I suppose- serves as a kind of bridge from one discography to the other. By titling the album NEW THREADS IS DEAD, I feel like we're burying New Threads for good and looking to the future, which I hope is as exciting for you as it looks for us. Featuring sweet album artwork hand drawn by my longtime pal Nick Burchard!
